Micro-TESE (Microsurgical Testicular Sperm Extraction)
Searching for sperm in testicular tissue under a microscope in azoospermia.
Micro-TESE is a microsurgical method that aims to retrieve sperm for assisted-reproduction techniques by searching for sperm in testicular tissue under a microscope in cases with no sperm in the semen (azoospermia).
In non-obstructive azoospermia, sperm production may be scarce and scattered. Micro-TESE allows detailed scanning of areas where sperm production is likely, under an operating microscope. This approach aims to increase the chance of finding sperm compared with classic methods and to reduce tissue loss. Retrieved sperm can be used with assisted-reproduction techniques such as IVF (ICSI).
Who Is It For?
- Patients with non-obstructive azoospermia
- The male factor in couples planned for assisted reproduction
- Selected cases where sperm was not found in previous attempts
How Is It Performed?
The procedure is performed under appropriate anaesthesia with an operating microscope; areas where sperm production is likely are scanned in detail and evaluated in coordination with the embryology laboratory.
Recovery & Follow-up
Most patients return to daily life in a short time; the process is planned in coordination with assisted-reproduction treatment.
