Myths and Facts About Premature Ejaculation

Premature ejaculation is one of the most common male sexual concerns; yet there are many misconceptions. Let's start with the facts.

Premature ejaculation is a common and treatable condition that a significant proportion of men experience at some point. Unfortunately, misconceptions can delay people from seeking help.

“It can't be treated” — False

Behavioural techniques, medical approaches and, in selected cases, procedural methods achieve marked improvement in most patients. Treatment is individualized.

“It's only psychological” — Incomplete

Performance anxiety may play a role; but neurobiological factors, local conditions such as prostatitis, or coexisting erectile dysfunction may also be involved. So assessment is important.

“Time is the only criterion” — False

Diagnosis is based not only on time but on loss of control and the distress it causes for the person and the relationship. Everyone's situation is different.

Premature ejaculation is common; do not hesitate to seek help. Assessment is confidential.
