Symptoms of Prostate Enlargement and Quality of Life
Benign prostate enlargement is not cancer; but urinary symptoms can affect quality of life. Early assessment is important.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition, usually in men over 50. It is not cancer; but urinary symptoms can affect daily life and sleep quality.
Symptoms to watch for
- Frequent night-time urination
- Weak urine stream
- Difficulty starting urination
- A feeling of incomplete bladder emptying
Why is early assessment important?
A BPH assessment is also an opportunity for a general check of prostate health. Since benign enlargement and other prostate conditions can occur in the same age group, examination and necessary tests are important.
Treatment is possible
For mild-to-moderate symptoms, medical treatment is often sufficient. Procedural options are considered in cases not responding to medication. Preservation of sexual function is also considered when planning treatment.
